The title may be puzzling. but soon, this may become a taraka mantra for the chennai residents. The fares set by autorickshaw drivers are on the increase day by day and we get accustomed to it. One of my friend who happened to come here was taken aback by the fare asked by one of the autodriver in T.Nagar. We were standing near Panagal park around 5 in the evening. An auto pulled up near both of us n this is what happened..
Friend: Adayar poganum. Evlo?
Autodriver: eranooru rooba kudunga.(200 rs).
Friend: Enna vechi comedy keemedy pannalaye??
Autodriver: Seri. Evlo tharuveenga?
Friend: ezhuvathanju ruba(75 rs). ok va?
Autodriver: Ippo enna vechi comedy keemedy pannalaye??
Friend: Illa illa. kadaisiya sollunga. evloku varuveenga?
autodriver. one fifty kudunga sir. kadaisiya kekaren.
Friend: 150 jaasthi. 120 vaangikonga.
and the auto driver left the scene.
My friend was lamenting about this till he left back to bangalore. and while leaving he told me this: "Ungala ellam paatha enakku paavama irukku" :)
